Off the Hook: Non-Substack Yarn and Thread, Fiber and Fabric Things I'm Loving Right Now
Craft 'zines, yarn bombs, museum exhibits, podcasts and more
Once a month I share the THREADSTACK links that I’m loving here on Substack. (Reminder, you’re invited to submit one link monthly to be included in that roundup!)
But, of course, there are so many wonderful yarn and thread, fiber and fabric things happening elsewhere online and out in the physical world. Let’s share those as well!
Reminder: You can join me on Zoom for the first Craft to Heal workshop on March 18th.
Here are some of the things I’ve been enjoying:
‘Zines from Common Threads Press
“Founded in 2019 by Laura Moseley, Common Threads Press is a small, independent publisher of books and zines that uplift histories of creative work.”

RugLife

I haven’t had a chance to stop in and see this exhibit, yet, but it’s on my go-soon list.
“Guest curated by Ginger Gregg Duggan and Judith Hoos Fox of c2-curatorsquared, RugLife features the work of 14 contemporary artists from around the world who use the rug as a medium to address cultural issues such as religion, technology, social justice, housing, and the environment.”
Opportunity to Donate to Yarnbomb Installation
I have contributed to several Yarnbombing LA projects in the past and they’re always great to see. Details.
From Fiber Art Now, Winter 2025
Fiber Art Now is my favorite print magazine that I subscribe to. I always discover something inspiring in the pages. (And once I’m done reading, it’s my favorite to use for collage art.) A few of my favorite finds from the Winter 2025 issue:
The work of Deirdre Pinnock who shares in her article, in part that she raises awareness through yarnbombing of the issues she cares about:
“These issues include being mindful of my mental health, using art and crochet to ease my anxiety, and reminding my neighborhood to be kind. Sharing my heart helps me to feel validated, especially on days when I need to feel good about my mental health.”
“My biggest challenge is finding my good mental health days to go out and be vulnerable with my art.”
“Emerging artist Maris Van Vlack’s hand-woven panels are delicate narrative creations. Each piece she creates is a complex tapestry, with thread building not only the surface but also the story.”
This piece by Carolyn Carson.
“In my practice, the human experience and the history of being contained is very important … first in the womb, then dwelling in caves, then discovering fiber and making huts and tents. Then when we die, our ashes are in vessels.” - Valeria Maldonado
Podcasts and Courses from Creative Restoration
The Why I Knit Podcast has launched a “Journal Club,” a monthly feature in which clinical psychologist and knitters Drs Paula Redmond and Mia Hobbs read and discuss a research paper related to the mental health benefits of knitting. Love this!
I am honored to have been a previous guest on the Why I Knit Podcast:
Also be sure to check out their self-paced audio course: Self-Care One Stitch at a Time.
This Miniature Knit Cuteness

“Handcrafted objects hold human connections. They’re so warm and rich in comparison to manufactured products. They have soul.” - Julie Steiner interview, PRINT Mag
And for a smile … Parade Pets
shared a very relatable TikTok video of trying to crochet when your pet wants to be all up in what you’re making:

THREADSTACK is a free directory and community. However, it does take a lot of work, and if you’re inclined to support that, your paid subscription to Substack or a one-time Venmo donation in any amount to KVercillo is greatly appreciated.
