Start Here ... What is THREADSTACK?
A directory and community for lovers of all things yarn and thread, fiber and fabric
Welcome! I am so glad that you have landed here.
Threadstack is both a directory and a community for all of the people on Substack who love yarn and thread, fabric and fiber. It’s for the people who knit, crochet, sew, quilt, weave, embroider, needle felt, dye, spin, etc.
THREADSTACK DIRECTORY
I have always thrived in creative communities of people who do magical things with yarn and thread. And there are a lot of these people here on Substack. The Threadstack Directory brings us all together so we can find one another. The people in the directory write regularly (but not necessarily only) about one or more aspects of the threadstack life.
THREADSTACK COMMUNITY
The Threadstack Community is anyone interested in these topics, whether or not your write about them. You join this community simply by subscribing to the Threadstack newsletter.
Ways of participating:
Pay it forward with a shoutout to someone else in the community.
Share THREADSTACK posts, comment on them, check out the other people in the community, engage with one another. Weave together …
Behind The Threads
This community is really all about the people who are crafting and creating and making … but, of course, it has to be started and organized and maintained by someone. That’s me - Kathryn.
I began crocheting in my late twenties and discovered that it helped significantly ease some of my symptoms of depression, so I started researching the benefits of crochet and ended up developing an expertise in that topic. I’ve written a few books (Crochet Saved My Life, Hook to Heal) and I make crochet art and I enjoy connecting with others over crochet.
I sort of know how to knit (I’m terrible at the purl) and I do some weaving. I can embroider and hand sew but badly and I don’t really enjoy it. I wish I did because I like the idea of quilting but alas … I’ve always intended to learn to spin and dye yarn but it hasn’t happened to date.
I have worked full time as a writer for about two decades, which is also about how long I’ve lived in San Francsico after moving here from Tucson because it’s the place where my creative heart beats best. I write the Substack newsletter Create Me Free which is about the complex relationship between art and psychology.
