Knitting Us Together, Weaving A Web of Crafty Support Among All Of Those Who Are Hooked On Fiber and Fabric

Threadstack is both a directory and a community for all of the people on Substack who love yarn and thread, fabric and fiber. It’s for the people who knit, crochet, sew, quilt, weave, embroider, needle felt, dye, spin, etc.

Part 1: Threadstack Directory

I have always thrived in creative communities of people who do magical things with yarn and thread. And there are a lot of these people here on Substack. The Threadstack Directory brings us all together so we can find one another.

Who can join this directory?

You are invited to have a listing in this directory if:

  • You have a Substack newsletter that regularly mentions one or all of these crafts: crochet, knitting, embroidery, weaving, sewing, etc.

  • This doesn’t have to be the only thing that you write about on your newsletter. However, it should be something that you mention regularly.

Want to join the directory?

Fill out this Google Form.

What if I don’t fit the directory criteria?

The goal of the THREADSTACK directory is to help people find the newsletters about these topics. However, the THREADSTACK community is larger than that, and you can be a part of it even if you aren’t listed in the directory.

Part 2: Threadstack Community

The Threadstack Community is anyone interested in these topics, whether or not your write about them. You join this community simply by subscribing to the Threadstack newsletter.

The newsletter is all about Threadstack-related topics and news. It also includes opportunities to engage regularly with one another in comments around specific crafty questions.

Plus, anyone who writes about these topics is invited to submit links to be included in the monthly roundups. You may submit one link per month to a new or old article. You do not have to be a member of the directory to submit.

Submit a link using this Google Form.

What Else to Expect …

I have some ideas for what THREADSTACK might begin to offer in 2025. None of this is set in stone because it’s really important to let ideas marinate and grow slowly. But some of the things that might be coming in addition to the directory:

  • My own writing relevant to the topic. I have an expertise in crochet as therapy, which I write about regularly, and I also write more broadly about the craft. I know how to knit, although I rarely do, and I enjoy weaving, although it’s been a bit since I did it.

  • Interviews and Guest Posts. I love collaborating with others, and this really is meant to be a place for people to share their unique experiences. So, I’m expecting to have interviews and guest posts with others about their yarn and thread adventures, ideas, projects.

  • A Virtual THREADSTACK Tour. I love virtual tours for my books. They are an awesome way to bring communities of people together around a single topic. It is very likely that in 2025 I’ll host a virtual tour of THREADSTACKERS.

  • Small online gatherings? Perhaps private chat threads for the people in the THREADSTACK community. Perhaps a monthly online gathering to craft together? Ideas in the works.

  • Webinars/Workshops. I have regularly thought about doing something like this with the 100 creative crochet exercises in my Hook to Heal book. Or a variation that allows for other crafts to utilize similar exercises. We’ll see.

  • Tutorials? Maybe we want to have written/audio/video tutorials in different crafts, created not just by me but by other THREADSTACKERS.

  • Additional Resources. Emails with books and films and classes that are great resources for the yarn/thread community. Or a calendar of upcoming related events. Or … Again, we’ll see?

Who Is Behind Threadstack?

Hi, I’m Kathryn. I was a crafty kid who re-discovered crochet during a debilitating bout of depression in my late twenties. It helped to save my life so I wrote a book about that, and I wrote a blog and some other books and lots of magazine articles for about a decade, all about how crochet heals. Then I got a Masters in psychology and wrote more broadly about some of the other handcrafts and how they heal. And most recently, I’ve been exploring how creativity does heal us but it can also be really complicated especially when it intersects with health. That’s what I write about at Create Me Free which is my primary Substack newsletter.

Support Threadstack

Threadstack is a free community. However, it takes a lot of work. Our expenses reflect our priorities so if you value what you find here, please contribute a little bit. You can choose a paid subscription here or you can choose a sliding scale subscription at Create Me Free starting at just $10/year. Every bit helps. THANK YOU.
